Robert Musslewhite is CEO of OptumInsight, a $10B Optum health services business serving payers, providers, state governments and life sciences organizations by connecting the health care system through trusted services, analytics and platforms that make clinical and administrative processes easier and more efficient. Musslewhite is responsible for leading all facets of the business, including strategy, growth, client value and team culture.

Prior to leading OptumInsight, Musslewhite was CEO of Optum360, CEO of Optum Analytics and CEO of Advisory Board Research. Musslewhite joined Optum in November 2017, following the acquisition of the Advisory Board Company where he served as CEO since 2008 and chairman since 2013. 

Under Musslewhite’s leadership as CEO, The Advisory Board Company more than quadrupled in size, expanding off its best practice research foundation into analytics and technology and growing to serve nearly every hospital and health system in the United States, as well as many life sciences companies, health plans and international provider organizations. The company’s mission, values and unique culture were top priority for Musslewhite.

On his watch, the firm garnered wide recognition, including Modern Healthcare magazine’s “Best Places to Work” for eight years running; Forbes’ “Best Management Consulting Firm” and “40 Most Innovative Growth Companies”; Working Mother magazine’s “100 Best Places to Work”; and the Human Rights Campaign’s “Best Place to Work” for LGBTQ employees.

Prior to joining The Advisory Board Company, Musslewhite was an associate principal with McKinsey & Company in the Washington, D.C., Amsterdam and Dallas offices. He serves on the board of directors of Ascend Learning and the board of directors of CoStar Group. Musslewhite holds a JD from Harvard Law School and an AB in economics from Princeton University.
